Madeline and Sherry, two total strangers until recently, share a love for skiing, and of course, a love for Halfdays! Madeline and Sherry met on the Halfdays Slack channel, where they discovered they were going skiing at the same location at the same time. So they decided to meet up on the slopes in Mammoth, CA!

Mammoth Mountain is located in the town of Mammoth Lakes, California. The mountain summits at 11,503 feet. Although it's known for skiing, Mammoth Mountain is home to tons of winter and summer activities and is surrounded by a lot of fun places to visit around town.

Madeline is from Minnesota and is now a mechanical engineer in Los Angeles. Sherry, a big SoCal girl, works in eCommerce in Costa Mesa.

We asked both Madeline and Sherry to share with us how they make the most of their ski trips to Mammoth Mountain. Keep reading as these two avid skiers and adventurers give us all the inside scoop on Mammoth!

Ski Spots

Mammoth Mountain is home to 100km of ski routes. A successful day of skiing comes with breathtaking views and endless excitement! Madeline and Sherry have shared a couple of their favorite places to tear it up on the slopes!

The Backsid

The backside of the mountain is known for having some pretty amazing views. Madeline and Sherry both also highly suggest getting a grilled cheese and soup at The Melt after a long day of shredding. Cornice

For all the thrill-seekers out there, heading to the peak of the mountain and heading down Cornice is a quick way to get a healthy dose of adrenaline!

Where To Stay

Even for somewhere as all-around gorgeous as Mammoth, having a cozy place to rest your head at night can make your experience all the better! Madeline and Sherry have a couple of favorites, however, these are only two of many options!

Mammoth Ski and Racquet Club

Mammoth Ski and Racquet Club was a strong recommendation from these two ladies. It’s perfect if you have a dog, with only a 7-minute walk or a super quick drive to Canyon Lodge.

Canyon Lodge

The Canyon Lodge Condos is a beautiful stay if you want somewhere right at Mammoth Mountain for a ski-in ski-out experience. However, (fair warning) availability can be pretty limited!

If you’re looking for a place to chill out after a long day, or if trying new restaurants is your go-to, Madeline and Sherry have visited a couple of places that they had awesome things to say about!

Distant Brewing

They mentioned Distant Brewing, a vibey brewery with really great beers! Distant Brewing is newer in town, is dog-friendly, and has plenty of food options as well.

Noodle-y

Noodle-y is a Thai and Vietnamese noodle place. The inside is super fun and colorful, and aside from the delicious food, they also have boba! It’s a popular spot (and for good reason), so be sure to call ahead to reserve a table, or get take out.

Although skiing on Mammoth Mountain is all the hype around town, there are so many other fun things to experience. Here are some ideas to get a little bit of variety during your stay.

June Mountain

If you're looking for somewhere to escape the crowds and really take in the scenery, June Mountain is smaller than Mammoth, but just as beautiful! It is about fifteen minutes away from Mammoth.

Nightlife at Canyon Lodge

If you're looking for some fun nightlife plans to end your day right, Canyon Lodge has got you! Even if you’re worn out from skiing all day, the energy, DJ, and drinks at Canyon Lodge will get you up and running again. Starting at 4 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, this is a popular hangout that's totally worth looking into!

If you’re wanting to satisfy those post-ski cravings, or fuel yourself for a long day, Mammoth has plenty of spots around town to hang out and grab a bite to eat.

For Lunch or Dinner plans, Madeline and Sherry suggested checking out Giovannis for some great pizza. This spot has a sports-bar vibe, and even if pizza isn’t your thing, the menu offers a variety of drinks, salads, Italian entrees, and wings!
