Halfdays is hiring a Designer to design for our ski, snow/outdoor, lifestyle outerwear, active and accessory categories. This individual will be responsible for creating collection concepts, assembling mood and inspiration boards, designing unique garments and accessories, sketching CADs, and assembling tech packs in Adobe Illustrator. They will also assist in maintaining cross-functional design tools such as color palettes and linesheets in AI. They will support our Head of Product to determine and communicate design intent through design development through to production. This role is tasked with creating innovative and new women's ski and lifestyle apparel and delivering industry-leading flattering, well-made and fashionable outdoor apparel for a rapidly growing brand.

 Must be based in NYC for Dumbo, Brooklyn office on-site work availability.

Role Scope + Responsibilities:

  • Produce design research of collection and garment inspiration, color direction, key details and constructions.

  • Build detailed tech packs including sketches, construction specifications, and spec sheets.

  • Work with Head of Product to mock up and play with full-scale details + design lines onto physical samples, then translating approved details and measurements into tech packs and spec sheets and BOMs.

  • Review fit comments post-fittings with Head of Product and provide approved comments to Technical Design to communicate with overseas factories on all fit, measurement and construction details of garments.

  • Support fittings with Head of Product and Product Development and Technical Design to translate fit intent and aesthetic details.

  • Update CADs and tech packs throughout fit and product development process.

  • Maintain organization of design library, tools and file storage.

  • Update and maintain digital design tools such as linesheets and color palettes. 

  • Develop flats and sketches for all designs as part of a cohesive seasonal collection aligned with the brand’s overall aesthetic and vision

  • Prepare all necessary components for design presentations, such as sketch boards, proto reviews, and production meeting preparation

  • Collaborate with other Apparel Designers and various cross-functional teams and maintain strong business relationships with external partners


  • Experienced in outerwear, activewear, and performance apparel design.

  • Minimum Associates Degree in Fashion Design.

  • Very strong Adobe Illustrator sketching skills

  • Experience designing ready-to-wear for a contemporary or designer-level fashion brand

  • Must be well-versed and quick in Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Gmail/Google Drive.

  • 5-7 years of industry experience designing womens outerwear, ski/snow, activewear and sport. 

  • Need to have an understanding of shifting consumer needs, trends, and psychographics and capable of translating that into the best product to solve customer needs and deliver it at the right time.

  • Keen knowledge of latest trends and innovation from competitive brands.

  • Specialist in product design, understanding of ergonomics and general practices in ski/outerwear product design

  • Strong understanding of pattern-making and garment constructions is essential

  • Accountable, entrepreneurial, and reliable with strong work ethic and can-do attitude

  • Positive, open and friendly team member

  • Ability to work on both long-lead and speed-to-market product developments with agility, efficiency, and speed

  • Clear and succinct communication skills, ability to translate complex technical information in easily understood manner to overseas partners 

  • Highly organized and able to productively self-manage workloads and prioritize top deliverables

  • Able to participate in occasional international calls with Asian vendors and/or attend technical design-related trade shows or events

Bonus points if you have…

  • Experience designing outerwear or ready to wear in extended/plus sizes (ideally up to 4XL) 

  • PDM/PLM experience

  • Experience as a skier or snowboarding (of any ability level)
